Why do you need an accessibility statement?

The EAA require a statement explaining how digital accessibility is achieved. The accessibility statement makes this possible and minimizes legal risks. It creates transparency regarding the status of your digital offerings and signals to customers that you take inclusion and diversity seriously.

FAQ on Accessibility Widget

The Eye-Able Accessibility Statement Generator is an intelligent software solution that automatically creates a legally compliant accessibility statement for your website or app. The tool analyzes the status of your digital services and checks how well the technical accessibility requirements are being met.

You then receive a dynamic HTML document, ready to publish immediately, that includes all legally required information. And because websites change over time, the generator reminds you when updates are needed and automatically adjusts references to new standards such as WCAG 2.2.

Digital accessibility in Europe is built on two pillars: the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and WCAG 2.a. Since June 28, 2025, the EAA — the implementation of EU Directive 2019/882 — extends these strict legal obligations to private companies as well, including online shops, apps, and other digital services.

Whether your organization is a public authority or a private business, you are required to meet the underlying accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1). Failure to comply may result in sanctions from the market surveillance authority and potential legal warnings.

Eye-Able helps you meet these requirements in a legally compliant way, while keeping your accessibility status transparent and fully documented.

A complete accessibility statement must clearly communicate the current level of inclusion. Legally, it must include:

  • Conformity status: Are the accessibility requirements fully, partially, or not met?

  • A list of existing barriers: For example, inaccessible PDF documents or issues with keyboard navigation.

  • A feedback mechanism: A link or contact form where users, including screen reader users, can report accessibility problems.

  • Information about the dispute resolution body: Guidance on where users can assert their rights if issues are not resolved.

This ensures full transparency and fulfills all legal obligations.

Eye-Able provides country-specific wording for Germany (developed in cooperation with Spirit Legal), Austria, Italy, and Poland.

Yes. The EAA defines “digital products” broadly. In addition to traditional websites, mobile apps, e-commerce services, and documents such as PDFs published after the compliance date are also covered by the regulation. All of these must meet the relevant accessibility requirements.

The statement must be easy to find from the homepage as well as from any subpage. The recommended placement is in the footer or main navigation, similar to the imprint or privacy policy. What matters most is that the link is clearly visible and the page remains machine-readable, ensuring that users of assistive technologies can easily locate and read it.

For agencies, digital accessibility is often complex and can carry legal responsibility. Eye-Able offers agencies tools to review websites and online shops with regard to digital accessibility and alignment with applicable legal requirements. Our generator takes care of creating the accessibility statement for you, reducing workload and risk.
